Season 3 - Week 2 Recap

Week 2 had the Ballers attempting the 1st Dynasty of Season 3 as they looked to defend their title.  With so much new top tier talent joining the league, the competition was definitely heating up.  The Ballers unfortunately looked out of sync this week, winning only a total of 2 round robin games.  With no repeat in sight, the Soldiers and Direwolves both won 5 of a possible 6 games, with the Soldiers finishing 1st overall based on point differential.

The top 2 teams, who both cruised into the finals were looking to cement their place in the Dynasty conversation this week.  Captain Tabish Khan of the Soldiers did what most teams in the past have done, and paired superstar Bilal Ilyas with his equally talented brother Umar Ilyas.  The newly appointed “Splash Bros” of GBBL looked to finally win the big one and looked to do it, while adding more firepower.  Week 1 SOTW owner Adeel Qureshi joined the boys in red along with Hummaad Ahmed.  On the flip side, the “Splash Bros” older bro, captain Fahad Ilyas assembled his own dynamic team.  He quickly snagged up GBBL’s newest superstar Jibran Waqar and OG Baseer Yaseen.  Big man Faisal Khan joined the Wolves along with GBBL’s newest sharpshooter Saoud Ramjaun.  The game started off with the Soldiers putting 3 quick points by Bilal and Tabish.  Not to be outdone, the Wolves Baseer took over under the basket, rebounding like a machine and doing all he could do get the score closer.  The Wolves would find themselves down an injury, with big man Fai buckling his knee earlier on in the round robin games.  With Fai not playing at 100%, he turned into a player coach, willing Saoud to take more shots.  Sood, looking more confident than ever, was making crisp passes and taking all his open shots.  Reminiscent of BSLN, every time he took a shot, you could hear the chants in the background “SOOD, SOOD, SOOD”. 

During the 2nd half, the Soldiers kept pouring it on, with Adeel doing the majority of the lifting on this week.  Adeel was on a tear and with his slick shooting, the Soldiers held a comfortable 10-6 lead with just over 2 minutes left.  Not to be outdone, Jibran & Fahad took over.  Jibs hit a big 3-pointer, followed by another big time 3 by Captain Fahad (reminding everyone that the “Splash Bros” learned everything from him).  Within a blink of an eye, the Wolves were up 13-10 after a few free throws made by the boys in grey.  Hummaad did everything he could to keep the Soldiers in the game, crashing the boards.  With under 10 seconds left, the Soldiers got the ball to their hottest player of the night and Adeel hit yet another big shot, to bring the game within 1.  With 5 seconds left, the Soldiers had the ball and needed just 1 to send it to OT and were able to get Umar a clean look.  Unfortunately, the shot did not drop, and the Wolves held on for the come from behind win.  New week, new Dynasty team; week 3 will now have the defending champs Wolves defend their newly minted title and look to get that 1st Dynasty of Season 3.  Stay tuned YoungBloods!!!
